What is Unitarian Universalism?

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion for open minds, developed out of a Judeo-Christian heritage. Our basic principle is freedom of belief.

We have a long heritage of courageous people who struggled for freedom in thought and faith. Outstanding UUs include John Adams, Clara Barton, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Susan B. Anthony, Eliot Richardson, and Whitney Young. Equally worthy are the thousands of men and women in our congregations leading vital, dedicated, and useful lives.

We affirm the worth of human beings and trust in their ability to build their own faith. Although people will differ in their opinions and lifestyles, we feel these differences generally should be honored—for each person is the final source of authority in his or her own life.

Ethical living is the supreme witness of religion. Our actions today will impact future generations. We know that our relationships should be governed by justice, equity, and compassion. We seek to promote a united world community, undivided by nation, race or creed.

We offer a warm, open, supportive community, providing acceptance and understanding and emotional support through all the stages and difficulties of life. The best way to get to know us is to visit us. A warm welcome awaits you.
