Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Unitarian Universalists different?

Our openness. We don't claim to have answers to life's mysteries. Instead, a UU's challenge is to discover life's meaning for him or herself. We are not alone in this task and we help each other, including sharing our discoveries and our questions.

What do its members think of Paint Creek UUC?

Surveys tell us that our members value our community most of all. Paint Creek UUC is a place of comfort for people whose spirituality doesn't always fit within the confines of traditional religion.

We are gentle with each other, and respect each others' viewpoints and ways.

What is the religious background of Paint Creek members?

Most of our members were raised in another faith, but found they couldn't accept the beliefs they were expected to adopt. Members may or may not be religious in the conventional sense; some do and some do not believe in god. However, they are interested in meaning, in morality, in the larger questions of life. At Paint Creek UUC, we can talk about deep and important issues without fear of censure.

Is everyone welcome?

Yes. We are a Welcoming Congregation. One of our central beliefs is acceptance for and respect of everyone.

How big is Paint Creek UUC?

We have about 70 members, and an equal number of children and supporters. The congregation is small and intimate. We have no plans to become a "megachurch."

When and where are services?

See the Our Location page.

What is the dress code?

Dress is casual. Some people dress more formally.

If I visit, can I bring my children?

Of course!

If I visit, will there be a 'hard sell?'

No. Our way of thinking is about free choice. In fact, the right of personal conscience is one of our basic principles.

If I visit, should I put money in the collection basket?

That's up to you.

Is there a central organization?

Yes. Paint Creek UUC is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association. We govern ourselves, hire our own minister, create our own services, and design our own education programs. The UUA is a support organization, not a governing body.
